OUR SERVICE

Crofts FIVE pillars of wellbeing

Our site has always had a plethora of furry friends both domestic and wild. Cats and a dog currently live on site alongside our chickens and ducks. We are planning to add goats and sheep (to add character and provide wool, milk and cheese), and miniature donkeys to join our current coterie of pets who love cuddles*

* We love that stroking a dog reduces their blood pressure and ours. Stroking a dog is scientifically proven to reduce human blood pressure by 10%, reducing stress, preventing cardiovascular disease, strokes, aneurysms, anxiety and upset. It also reduces the blood pressure of the dog, helping our canine friends stay healthy for longer. There is no similar research into the effects of stroking on donkeys, but this video suggests they are likely to feel the same benefits.

5. ANIMALS

Every artist will tell you that art and creativity is a great way of expressing, working through and resolving trauma. There are plentiful opportunities for visual art on our site, alongside opportunities to learn skills traditionally associated with crofting, currently including wool dyeing and weaving. We also have a dance teacher on site.

4. creative/artistic therapies

Our brilliant therapy team offer individuals staying with us private therapy and will run group sessions as needed on specialist subjects with residents and those staying on site for short breaks. We also plan woodfire saunas, a firepit for evenings of chat, song, storytelling etc and a yoga studio. We also have a yoga teacher on site.

3. TALKING THERAPIES and feel good things

Our idyllic grounds, gardens, views and sunsets make Croft a natural sanctuary. We use our land, gardening and growing, harvesting the therapeutic and physical benefits for our residents & visitors. We are creating a sensory garden and meditation garden onsite.

2. NATURE

If we are what we eat then people living at Croft are nourished. We grow a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables on our site, have fresh eggs from our chickens, and plan dairy products in the future. An award-winning former head chef teaches residents & visitors how to turn the food grown at Croft into quick and delicious meals.
